OUR MISSION

Working with Colleagues!

The founders of Wildland Fire Research Institute recognized that scientists world-wide were communicating with one another, but, because of distance and language, much research being done in other places was not being seen. Inspired by US President Richard Nixon’s 1971 breakthrough in diplomacy with the People’s Republic of China via the exchange of sports teams (google “nixon ping pong diplomacy”), our mission is to improve international relations through the exchange of scientific knowledge in the management and science of wildland fire.

About us

Previously known as Fire Research Institute, we are changing our name to Wildland Fire Research Institute. The Institute was founded in 1983 to benefit research in fire across the globe.
